Planning Large Home Air Conditioning: Mandurah Expert Advice

Author: Lance Wiggers

When they’re considering air conditioning, Mandurah Wa based residents may just get the largest AC system that they can afford. The prevailing opinion is that larger is always better and this is not the case, even if you have a large home. The air conditioning system has to be carefully matched to your living space. If the AC system is too large or too small, you will have problems. In this article, we will look at some of the things that you need to be aware of before you purchase and install a new AC system.

What is a Larger Home?

For the purposes of this article, we’re talking about multi-storey homes that have more than three bedrooms. A larger home layout can vary a great deal, but somewhere between four and eight bedrooms, with two or three stories would fit into the scope of this article. If you only want treated air in certain parts of a larger home, two popular options are covered below.

What is Your Air Conditioning Budget?

This will be a huge factor in the type of AC system that you could install in your home. If you have a larger budget, you could go for a ducted reverse cycle system. This is an excellent option for a multi-storey home with more bedrooms to heat and cool. A ducted air conditioning system will deliver the treated air to every room via a network of ducts and vents. The ductwork is easy to run throughout the home, and this makes it easier to reach every indoor space. It’s easier to install the vents and run the ducts during a new home construction phase when the framing is in place. If you want an AC system like this in an existing home, it will take longer, and it can be a messy process. A ducted air conditioning system will cost more than evaporative or split system alternative.

What Air Conditioning Coverage Do You Need?

Even if you have a large home, you may not want to provide air conditioning to every area in your home. It’s important to consider what you want to cover with your new AC system. As an example: if you rarely use two of the bedrooms, you may not want to provide treated air to those rooms at all.

In fact, if you need less air conditioning coverage, you could even use a reverse cycle split system instead of using a ducted AC system. However, it should be noted that a split system is not ideal for multiple storey homes. If you want to use a split system on multiple stories, you will need to install multiple compressors for each storey where you want treated air. This will increase the costs of a split system significantly, and in many cases, a ducted reverse cycle system can be had for a negligible price difference.
